Texas A&M basketball just knocked off the Georgia Bulldogs on the road, adding yet another Quad 1 win to their quickly-ascending resume. The Aggies are now 3-3 in Quad 1 games, evening out the early and regrettable losses against SMU and Oklahoma State as well as their lone conference loss in double overtime on the road against Tennessee.
The Aggies, at 16-4 coming into this game, had some time to prepare for this one, but they have done so as an unranked team. Though the Aggies were receiving votes this past week, they did not get enough to crack the top 25— which is a pretty outrageous reality given what this team has accomplished relative to some of the teams who are in that number.
After this result, though, there is no excuse at all— the Aggies need to be ranked in this upcoming poll. What Bucky McMillan and company are doing can no longer be ignored.
Texas A&M absolutely must be ranked after dismantling Georgia in Athens
Texas A&M's 15-point victory over the Bulldogs was the largest margin that the Bulldogs have lost by in Athens this year— their only other two home losses were by one and two points, respectively, and both were in overtime.
It's tied for the second-biggest loss of the year for the Bulldogs overall— Florida, the top SEC team in the NET rankings, beat them by 15 in Gainesville, but the Bulldogs have been extremely competitive with everyone who comes to Athens— except for the Aggies.
Texas A&M blitzed the Bulldogs right out of the gate, putting up an early 20-0 run— which, to their credit, Georgia bounced back from. But the deficit was at or exceeding 10 points for most of the second half, and the Aggies showed that they have improved mightily when it comes to finishing games.
This kind of performance had better sway the voters, as it is hard to overstate just how impressive it truly is. The Aggies have a gauntlet this upcoming week with games against Alabama and Florida— both ranked— but if they come out of that stretch at 1-1, they should be smelling like a rose.
