Texas A&M basketball just had its season end against Houston. It's not the first time it's happened, but there are some takeaways from what was a season that the rest of the SEC didn't expect.
The Aggies entered the tournament as the 10th seed and faced St. Mary's. The Gaels are a disciplined team that takes care of the basketball, but they ended up forcing the most turnovers all season. The Aggies took advantage of that, and they made the Gaels pay.
One of Texas A&M's players is already giving Bucky McMillan credit for the job he did without his best resources. Pop Isaacs became one of the surprises of the roster with his deep shooting and high confidence. That same confidence is what Texas A&M will be for years to come.
Pop Isaacs assures confidence in Texas A&M's future
" This team did a great job of setting the foundation and setting coach's culture. Coach did a great job of setting the culture on what A&M basketball will be moving forward. All the guys bought in which was huge. This group will always mean something to A&M basketball. It's been fun to be a part of it."Pop Isaacs
McMillan was the hero that A&M fans didn't expect. Why would they at first? They had a guy called Chris McDermott on their roster from the Buzz Williams era. McDermott actually got some minutes in the Oklahoma game during the SEC Tournament, but it's the culture that sets him apart from others.
McMillan made Rashaun Agee arguably the best player on the roster. Agee's toughness was enough to have fans fall in love with him. Mackenzie Mgbako was supposed to be the go-to player, but his season was cut short due to injury.
McMillan has his team set up for huge success next season. They did what they could against a No. 2 Houston team, but give Houston credit. They made A&M pay for their inexperience together.
Texas A&M will be back for years to come. Isaacs recognizes that, and fans should too.
