If you took a popularity survey of Texas A&M fans regarding their favorite player on the team, it would be hard to imagine that anyone other than Taurean York would win— and probably win going away. York has been one of the favorites of the Maroon and White faithful since stepping foot on campus before the 2023 season, and he has lived up to and exceeded expectations since day one.
York was far outside the ranks of the blue-chip prospects in his year, and he wasn't even close to a top-300 recruit. Yet the Aggies pivoting towards him late in the cycle is now paying off in a huge way, as he has been a key part of their defense for quite some time.
Perhaps for the same perceived qualities that made York a lower-ranked recruit, though, most Aggie fans have not been effusive in their evaluations of him as a high-round NFL prospect. One outlet that has, however, is Pro Football Focus, who just labeled York the second-best returning linebacker in the nation for the upcoming year.

This shouldn't really be a huge surprise to Aggie fans, as York has been rock solid in so many ways since arriving in College Station. You'll rarely, if ever, see him make the wrong play from a football IQ perspective, and there's very few players better at tackling than he is— on the roster or in the nation.
York is the epitome of a guy you'd want to have on your roster, in several ways: he's a clear leader, evidenced by his election as captain as a true sophomore, and a postive locker room voice. He's all-out when it comes to effort on the field as well, leading by example in that way.
If this kind of buzz continues about York, it wouldn't be out of the question to see him jump to the NFL after this season. PFF sees him as a late first-round pick right now, which would be amazing if it came to pass. Of course, Aggie fans no doubt want to see York return to campus for his senior campaign— but we'll have to wait and see what materializes.
