Guide to Texas A&M's bye weekend: Tennessee vs Oklahoma
This is a battle of a pair of two-conference-loss teams over in Knoxville— neither of which are squads that the Aggies will play this year. However, Texas A&M can reap a slight benefit if this game goes one way as opposed to the other.
One of the SEC tiebreakers is the combined overall conference record of a team's opponents. The chief competition for the Aggies getting to Atlanta is obviously Alabama, Georgia, and Ole Miss. The Tide and Bulldogs both play the Volunteers, while the Tide and the Rebs both play the Sooners.
So, since Alabama plays both teams, it's a wash for them either way. The question then becomes who is a greater threat for Texas A&M making the SEC championship, should the Aggies drop a game: Georgia or Ole Miss?
Georgia's conference schedule including Alabama, Tennessee, and Ole Miss means that, barring a collapse from all three that would make this question moot anyway, it will be tough for the Aggies to outdo them when it comes to combined overall conference record of a team's opponents.
This game could actually be pretty decisive, though, for a potential tiebreaker between Ole Miss and Texas A&M. The Aggies need the conference win percentage of Ole Miss's opponents to stay low, so A&M fans should pull for Tennessee here.
