North Carolina's latest hiring has Texas A&M fans scratching their heads to say the least.

UNC fans woke up to the news that North Carolina will be hiring former Texas A&M head coach Bobby Petrino to be their offensive coordinator. Since his post-head coaching days, Petrino has been looking for anything to stay relevant on the map, but this looks like an even more desperate move from UNC's part.

Even Yahoo Sports was quick to point out that this was a bad hire for UNC, as Petrino had not won a single game after Sam Pittman was fired from Arkansas.

Now, I know Collin Klein is leaving after a solid coaching season, but it would've been laughable to bring Petrino back after going 0-7 at Arkansas. The Petrino project didn't work for Mike Elko in 2024, but apparently, UNC thinks they can do something.

Fans who have been active watching football for over 25 years know the magic Belichick can turn water into wine, but going after Petrino after an embarrassing first season seems like Belichick is out of cards.

Texas A&M fans want nothing to do with Petrino after the offense couldn't get anything going at times. Sure, Conner Weigman was benched for Marcel Reed in the middle of 2024, but there wasn't much going on offense anyway.

Petrino is just a journeyman coach at this point, and, likely, UNC won't do much with him as the main playcaller. This is just a chance for Texas A&M (and Arkansas) fans to sit back and laugh at this obscure and surprising move from UNC.
