Texas A&M is 9-0 for the first time since 1992. The Aggies still have to worry about LaNorris Sellers and Arch Manning before they think about an undefeated regular season, and not to mention a potential date with Alabama in the SEC Championship if things hold.
Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin just made his best plea to the committee in favor of Texas A&M as the top dogs in the country— the second time he's given the Aggies a lot of credit this season. They have the best resume out there and have gone on the road to beat some of the best teams in the land.
Kiffin, out of all people, is unexpected, but it's an SEC coach trying to highlight what Texas A&M has had to go through all season.

"Texas A&M being No. 3, what more do you want them to do to be 1?"
"They went up to Notre Dame and won."
"What good did that do if that's not rewarded?

If the Aggies went 2-1 against Arkansas, LSU and Missouri, they would probably still be in playoff contention, depending on what would happen at the end of the season. Going 3-0 against those teams has made Texas A&M an instant national championship contender. They can win it all with what they've got now.
When we really think about it, Ohio State really doesn't have to be No. 1 at all. If we rewind to 2014, the defending champion Florida State Seminoles ended up at No. 3 in the College Football Playoff bracket. Sure, to beat the champs, you have to beat the champs, but who has Ohio State beaten this year?
A Texas team that has struggled this season? Washington? Wisconsin? Purdue? The Buckeyes still have to beat Michigan in Ann Arbor, but the committee doesn't have to put them as the top dogs just because they're the champs.
The committee would probably favor Indiana anyway to be the top team, but Texas A&M has a better resume even than them.
Of course, Mike Elko doesn't care about where his Aggies end up. They just want a shot to win the SEC and the national championship.
