Texas A&M football adds coveted portal DL Tyler Onyedim to begin rounding out portal class

Texas A&M football has once again closed on a top portal target. The Aggies have been looking to add players at receiver and defensive line since the transfer window began, and they’ve now snagged multiple contributors at each spot.

The ball got rolling with the commitment of Mississippi State receiver Mario Craver. Not long after, highly-touted wideout Micah Hudson added his name to the A&M commit list. Holmon Wiggins was cooking with these additions as the Aggie staff began to flip a disappointing receiver room.

Not to be outdone, the Aggie DL coaches began to make their mark. Colorado and Pitt transfer Dayon Hayes was the first to sign with the Aggies, followed by an elite athlete in UGA’s Samuel M’Pemba and a projected starter in Florida’s TJ Searcy.

Texas A&M football then added another key contributor— and a possible number one option for next year— in WR KC Concepcion. Now, they may have the crown jewel of their defensive line class as well.

Late last night, the Aggies picked up a huge commitment from senior Iowa State DL Tyler Onyedim. The former Cyclone has stuffed the stat sheet during his time in Ames and has received all-Big 12 honors.

Onyedim already has an Aggie connection, having played alongside Rueben Fatheree in high school at Richmond Foster. That had to have been working in the Aggies’ favor in this one, as did Onyedim being a local kid growing up.

Though he is listed as an edge rusher, make no mistake— Onyedim is a defensive tackle through and through. At 6’4”, 295, he was an edge in Iowa State’s 3-3-5 scheme, but he projects as a guy who will mostly play inside for the Aggies, with some flexibility to move to SDE.

This is a big move for the Aggies. With one or two more additions along the line, especially at defensive tackle, A&M will have hit a complete home run for this transfer portal cycle. Here’s hoping we see them do just that.
