Texas A&M football has picked up another commit today in four-star safety Chance Collins. Texas Tech had long been thought to be the leader for the blue-chip safety out of Mansfield Timberview in Arlington, Texas, but the Aggies made a huge push this weekend for a guy they feel great about adding to their class and were able to hold the Red Raiders off.
This is definitely a hugely positive move for the Aggies, as A&M has been lagging behind in in-state recruiting, and so picking up a four-star defensive back from the DFW area is a cure for what ails them on that front. It also is nice to remind some of these in-state programs where they rank on the totem pole, especially with some of the rhetoric that Tech fans have been throwing out recently.
Though A&M doesn't have a huge number of in-state commits, the Aggies have one of the best classes overall. On3 lists them as the sixth-best recruiting class in the country right now, but they're nipping at Georgia's heels. The addition of Collins moves them that much closer to climbing the ladder.
Texas A&M adds 4-star safety Chance Collins to loaded recruiting class
Collins helps fill a definite need for the Aggies, who add him as the first safety in their class. Like every other player currently committed to the Aggies (with the exception of kicker Asher Murray), he is a four-star prospect, giving A&M a class that is entirely above the blue-chip ratio cutoff.
The Aggies are still big-game hunting at the safety position, having put themselves squarely in the discussion for the two best in the nation at the spot in Jireh Edwards and Bralan Womack. Adding a guy like Collins helps take the pressure off in those recruitments, but they'll still make a huge run.
Insiders are still indicating that there are more dominos yet to fall for the Aggies from this past weekend, and they have another loaded slate of visitors coming in over the next few days. Hopefully, this hot streak only continues.
