When Texas A&M football defeated LSU back in 2024, it looked to be the passing of a torch between Conner Weigman and Marcel Reed. Reed helped lead a second-half rally in College Station to a statement victory, and from there on out, it looked like the Aggies had their new guy for the future.
As a freshman, Reed found his niche as a duel-threat quarterback, but also went through some massive growing pains, which is normal for any freshman quarterback.
The 2024 team had problems on both sides of the ball, but not being able to run the football in the Texas game pretty much demonstrated that Texas A&M was not ready to compete in an SEC Championship game. Now, Billy Liucci of TexAgs says that the growing pains that were once killing the Aggies before won't be much of an issue in the 2025 season.
Texas A&M offense has no excuse not to thrive in 2025
With the additions of KC Concepcion and Mario Craver, the receiving position will be in a solid position for Reed this season. Along with a familiar offensive line, Reed and Le'Veon Moss have tons of room for growth. On 'That SEC Football Podcast,' Liucci claims there's no excuse as to why the Aggies can't be a great offense this upcoming season (skip to 15:20).
"I don't see a reason why they shouldn't be really good offensively, and I think it's going to start with that (offensive line) and the ground game, which should really allow Marcel to take a big step in year two," Liucci said.
Liucci also claims that there will be names of Aggie offensive lineman on the board for the 2026 NFL Draft.
The ground game will look to open up a ton with hopefully a full season of Rueben Owens. Of course, Aggie fans will keep a close eye on Reed, as his sophomore campaign will likely be the main story of the entire upcoming season.
Liucci has a point in saying the Aggies have a legitimate shot to work well on offense this season, but of course, it's the SEC. The pool is always deep and tough to make it to Atlanta for the SEC Championship game.
