Texas A&M football seeking to continue bolstering receiver room via portal, but they'll have to overcome SEC powers to do so
The commitment of Micah Hudson to Texas A&M football was a huge moment for the Aggies. Hudson brings a pedigree and skillset that is extremely hard to come by for any team, and the Ags will be huge beneficiaries thereof.
But even though the Ags now have a guy like that in the room, this staff is still looking to add more talent at the position. You have incoming freshman Jerome Myles, but he won't be here until the summer, and he is coming off of a season-ending injury. Terry Bussey will be a year more developed, but two guys still isn't enough for a big time receiving corps.
That's why the Aggies are still battling in the portal for some top-flight receivers— two, in particular. The first is Mario Craver out of Mississippi State. The Bulldogs moved Craver all over the field when they played the Aggies back in October, so A&M fans should well remember him.
The second is Nic Anderson. Formerly OU's number one target, Anderson has only had one healthy season in three years— but his impact was massive in those games.
As you'd expect, though, none of this comes easy. The Ags are locked in battles with two of the premier SEC powers for these players; Alabama is after Craver as well, and LSU feels confident with Anderson.
You'd love to go two-for-two as a staff in these situations, but the odds are against you there. Getting one of these guys would be a great move to help close out the position via the portal; if you slot another guy in near the top of the rotation, that makes matchups easier all the way down the line.
If the Aggies were to land both, though, that would be a complete coup. Can Mike Elko and this staff do it? I wouldn't say it's likely at the moment, but it's not out of the question. As I write this, Elko just tweeted out that another commitment has come through... hopefully, we get another tweet like that soon.
