Texas A&M under Mike Elko has been a greater purveyor of the portal than at any point in the previous regime. The Aggies have done a really good job of supplementing the existing players with key additions from the transfer ranks in order to fill out the roster.
There were a bunch of transfers starting on the 2024 team, especially on defense. This year, though, the Aggies have been able to scale back— without having to build a team from the ground up as Elko did in year one, the need hasn't been as urgent.
That lack of intake, especially in this spring window, has some apparently disgruntled with the Aggies' approach.
Texas A&M football baselessly labeled as spring portal losers
SEC Mike's latest guest had a less-than-rosy outlook on Texas A&M's spring portal performance so far.

This is just an odd list for the Aggies to be on. They only lost one player— Micah Hudson— and he was already out the door before the spring even really began. Heck, it's hard to even count him as a loss since he never even suited up for the Aggies.
This is one of those "way-too-early" takes in a sense, though, beccause the portal has yet to close. Just today, the Aggies hosted a freshman all-American linebacker from Missouri State. A&M has yet to receive a commitment, but they also haven't cast a very wide net.
I guess they needed five schools to put on the bottom of this graphic. I'm really not sure why A&M could be listed as a spring portal loser at this point, unless you're criticizing the approach Elko is taking. But the fact of the matter is, the roster is in a pretty stable position at the moment, and the Aggies won't be stretching their NIL budget to land mid-tier contributors with high demands.
There may be one or two additions in this cycle, but there haven't been any names to enter up until now that have jumped off of the page. That could change, but as of right now, I think A&M is happy with where they are.
