Texas A&M football adds second impact transfer defensive lineman of day with T.J. Searcy's pledge
Just hours after landing a commitment from Samuel M'Pemba, Texas A&M football and Mike Elko are once again on the board— and yet again, it's at a big time position of need. The upgrade along the defensive line continues as the Aggies notch a commitment from Florida's T.J. Searcy.
As a rotational player in 2024, Searcy notched 34 tackles and 4 tackles for loss. That includes 2 sacks. Searcy also forced two fumbles, which is impressive in the time that he spent on the field.
Searcy will come into College Station with a distinct chance to start at strong side defensive end. His build is just what the Aggies need at the position, and he will challenge some returning players for snaps there.
You need depth at the position in any case, though, and the Aggies have proven that they will rotate players a fair amount. Searcy will immediately be a guy in that rotation, even if he doesn't start, and will feature prominently in the Aggie defense, if I had to guess today.
This continues the trend of this Texas A&M football staff having identified and landed some big time targets at positions of need in this portal cycle. We've seen it happen with receiver already, with the additions of Micah Hudson and Mario Craver.
Just like with WR, though, I wouldn't be surprised if there's more in the chamber for the Aggies to add along the defensive front. We are currently in a dead period for the portal, though, so it may be a bit before we see any more additions.
