Despite late run from Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M football pulls in signatures from two elite defensive linemen
Even though we saw Texas A&M football take on Texas on the field last Saturday for the first time in thirteen years, this kind of battle between the two programs is one that has been raging continuously for quite some time.
When two major schools are only 90 miles away from each other, you'll so often see that they will be locked in big time recruiting battles like this one. In this case, the Aggies ended up winning out.
Both the Aggies and Longhorns have put together solid classes, but with different emphases. The Longhorns have quite a bit of skill talent, but are missing some big names on the lines. The Aggies, however, have a huge amount of talent stockpiled on the lines, but were searching for more juice at the skill positions.
A&M has already done well to address that, adding Jamarion Morrow and Tiger Riden at RB, as well as Kelshaun Johnson, Tristan Allen, and—most recently—Jerome Myles at receiver.
The Longhorns, though, were attempting to pull a big name in the trenches right up until the last moment—and at the Aggies' expense. Texas A&M football was in early on two interior defensive linemen from the state of Texas in Chace Sims and DJ Sanders, getting both of them committed early on.
These were two guys that Texas were after pretty hard, and they continued to pursue right up until the final moment. Texas fans began to beat their chests that they thought they had a flip or two in the works. The Aggies were able to hold off the Longhorns, however, and get these key players in the boat.
These are the kinds of battles you have to win in the SEC. The games in this conference are won in the trenches; we've seen what overloading on skill talent leads to—just ask Tom Herman. This was a huge victory for the Aggies.
