Texas A&M football reverses strange in-state trend by snagging commitment of top-75 RB Jonathan Hatton

Texas A&M football found themselves in some strange and uncharted waters recently on the recruiting front. The Aggies have been building towards a possible number one overall class, even though they've suffered a few decommitments.

The strange thing is, though, that the Aggies have been doing this without any in-state commitments. After Markel Ford and Ryan Gilbert both jumped ship earlier this year, the Ags were left without a single pledge from the state of Texas.

At this point in the recruiting calendar, with only months to go until national signing day, that's an unprecedented place to be in for the Aggies. But it looks like the Aggies have managed to turn that around now, as they picked up a commitment today from one of the key pieces in this 2026 coming together as they envision: top-75 RB Jonathan Hatton.

Texas A&M football receives pledge from elite RB Jonathan Hatton, Jr.

Hatton is in College Station this weekend with a whole host of highly-talented players, including several five-stars. When he announced his commitment date and later it came to light that he would be visiting Aggieland, there wasn't much question about where he would be committing to.

Still, this is a massive move for the Aggies. Hatton is every bit of an elite back, and bringing him into the fold is a big win for the Ags.

Even though this is quite the win for the Ags, it doesn't seem as though it will cause them to demur in their pursuit of another elite in-state back in KJ Edwards. If they snag him, this will be a truly top-shelf class at the running back spot.
