Texas A&M football just added their first portal commit of cycle in UAB QB Jacob Zeno
This Texas A&M football staff continues to demonstrate just how quickly and effectively they are able to address roster needs via the portal.
The Aggies found themselves wanting in the QB room after the departures of Conner Weigman and Jaylen Henderson. Though they are bringing in two true freshman quarterbacks in Eli Morcos and Brady Hart, they needed a steady, veteran hand to help guide Marcel Reed and Miles O'Neill.
They just found the exact right guy to do that. After several predictions came rolling in over the last few days, the Aggies just added former UAB quarterback Jacob Zeno via the transfer portal.
Zeno is entering his seventh (!!!) year of college football after spending three years at Baylor and three years at UAB. He has been a highly accurate passer, notching a completion percentage of 73.6% in 2023 before missing much of this past season with an injury.
This is just what the Aggies needed for this quarterback room. Zeno can pick up gains with his legs, but he is mostly a pocket passer, and a very accurate one at that. Reed, on the other hand, is clearly extremely dynamic on the ground, while still growing as a passer.
Zeno is just the kind of quarterback that can push Reed to grow in the areas where the Aggies need him to. If Marcel in some world fails to do so, then the Ags have a great insurance policy in the former Bear and Blazer. But in my mind, this is a move that will help provide some high-quality, high-end depth while also aiding in the development of a guy who is becoming one of the game's brightest stars.
