Texas A&M football reportedly bringing in portal QB Jacob Zeno for visit

Texas A&M football is already making some moves in the transfer portal on the first day that it is open. The Aggies have several players headed out via the transfer ranks, but if we learned anything from last season, it's that Mike Elko won't be docile when it comes to adding to the roster in this way.

Of course, the Aggies don't, in the long-term, plan on building their roster entirely from portal players. High school recruiting is still a point of emphasis, and on that count, the Aggies are doing quite well. That said, though, there are some positions at which you need guys who are ready to be starters—or have enough experience to push your current guys.

It's that experience factor that has the Aggies looking hard in the portal for a quarterback. With Conner Weigman and Jaylen Henderson leaving College Station, the Ags are left with Marcel Reed, Miles O'Neill, and two incoming freshmen. That's not a lot of snaps—so the Aggies are looking to bring in some more.

Enter Jacob Zeno. The San Antonio native spent three seasons at Baylor and three at UAB before looking to transfer for his final year. He's highly accurate, registering a 73.6% completion rate last year, and obviously very seasoned, as this will be his seventh year in college football.

Zeno is reportedly set to visit the Aggies today.

Of course, a guy like that isn't coming in with the thought that he will be a backup. He'll compete hard for the starting job, and with numbers like we've seen, I'm not so sure he couldn't win it.

As recruiting predictions go, the Aggies are apparently the early favorite for Zeno's services in his final year in college.

This is a win-win for the Aggies. Even if Zeno doesn't win the starting job, he's a top-tier backup and a guy that Reed can learn from and would be a valuable voice in the room.
