Even though the Aggies are bringing back a lot of talent for the 2025 season, there are still some positions that are up in the air right now. With the talent that A&M brought in during the transfer portal window, the Ags have a few questions about who they'll be starting in the upcoming season.
The roster is now all but set for the upcoming year, and the points of contention are therefore now clear. There are some places where a lack of depth will have Aggie fans praying to avoid any injury, and some places where there is an excess of riches.
Who will step up for Texas A&M in 2025? Predicting roster battles after spring portal
Here is how we see several huge roster battles shaking out when all is said and done for Texas A&M football.
CB: Julian Humphrey and Dezz Ricks split time
Ricks was picked on a lot down the stretch for the Aggies. His inexperience made him an easy target for opposing teams, but he is maybe the most physically gifted player on the A&M roster. Humphrey is an experienced player who was really good for the Georgia Bulldogs, so with Will Lee having one of the corner spots locked down, as Ricks continues to grow, I see Ricks and Humphrey rotating at the other spot regularly.
S: Myles Davis emerges
Dalton Brooks and Bryce Anderson currently make up the returning safety group for the Aggies, but redshirt freshman Myles Davis could have something to say about how that position looks in the upcoming year. His name has been tossed around a lot, and with the disappointing 2024 that Anderson had, don't be surprised if Davis begins to see more and more playing time this season.
DL: Hicks, Searcy, Regis, and Howell are starting group
This is the biggest question mark on the team. The returning Regis is a stalwart, and Howell is looking like he'll be a bona fide star, but the other spots are up for grabs. DJ Hicks needs to show why he was ranked as a five-star coming out of high school, and Florida transfer TJ Searcy has impressed so far in spring. They'll be the main guys for the Aggie defensive line.
WR: Entirely new group takes center stage
This was always going to be a complete line change for the Aggies after so many players departed, but I think it shakes out well. Ashton Bethel-Roman has been a name many fans are getting excited about, KC Concepcion was one of the biggest transfer pickups in the nation, and Mario Craver is coming in as an underrated player out of Mississippi State. I see those three as commanding most of the snaps this upcoming year.
TE: Nate Boerkircher suprises
Boerkircher was not as hailed as he should have been when he committed to the Aggies. A&M was in desperate need of a player who could both block and catch at the TE spot, and Boerkircher fits that bill perfectly. Though they have a couple of pass-catching TEs who are maybe more talented, Boerkircher's all-around game will make him a breakout player for the Aggies next year— a true dual-threat.
RB: Morrow works way into rotation
Running back should be all but set with most of the snaps returning— Moss, Daniels, and Owens all should receive a heavy dose of carries this upcoming year. However, I think true freshman Jamarion Morrow will have a couple of highlight plays if he gets the chance— his electricity is undeniable, and I foresee him putting a few exciting plays on tape this year.
