Those present at SEC Media Days had high praise for Texas A&M football, for the most part. With the offense set to take Texas A&M to new heights starting on August 30 against UTSA, it's beginning to look pretty clear to the media that Texas A&M is a dark horse team that the SEC might not see coming until it's too late.
UTSA has made plenty of noise in this decade. The Roadrunners under Jeff Traylor have won multiple bowl games, with the highlight of his tenure coming in 2021 when he won UTSA its first Conference USA championship. It won't be long after that until the Aggies face some major tests in September that might decide their fate for the entire season.
Billy Liucci of TexAgs sat down with SEC Mike to discuss the Aggies' fate for 2025, and that could come much earlier than expected with two revenge games on the schedule early.
Notre Dame and Auburn games will identify Texas A&M's season early
There's no doubt Aggies fans want nothing more than to beat Notre Dame in South Bend. The second thing they want the most is to get revenge on Auburn, a game where Texas A&M had multiple chances to win back in 2024.
We asked @billyliucci which games will define the ceiling of Texas A&M's season:

"They've got to go 2-0 in September against Notre Dame & Auburn."
"Those are the two that stand out to me."

Liucci says that Notre Dame and Auburn are the opponents against whom the Aggies must go 2-0. In that case, he anticipates some wiggle room for the LSU and Texas game. He marked LSU and Texas both a "toss-up," where anything can happen.
In another story, he also put Florida as a "toss-up," thinking that DJ Lagway would take a leap and challenge Texas A&M in a midseason affair. Notre Dame, LSU and Texas are the games that fans really have circled on the calendar, and with Texas A&M set to return most of their faces on both sides of the ball, this will be a confident Aggie team going into 2025.
Vegas already has a 7.5 total on the Aggies' win total this season, and while they have a great chance to go over on that, the games against Notre Dame and Auburn will decide if the Aggies can compete with the big dogs in the SEC this season.
