Texas A&M football is almost here, with just over a month remaining before toe meets leather in the Aggies' opening game against UTSA at Kyle Field. Now, in the interim between SEC Media Days and the beginning of fall camp, the excitement for A&M is continuing to grow among the maroon and white faithful.
Though the Aggies are still a bit slept on, broadly speaking (though there are some who have high hopes outside of College Station), there's been a quiet confidence among the fanbase heading towards this season. There are naysayers aplenty, just like always, but true Aggie fans know that there's quite a lot of reason for optimism for this year.
The schedule gets tougher, as the Aggies will have to venture to South Bend, Baton Rouge, and Austin for road contests this year rather than hosting those programs in Kyle Field. However, snag just one of those road contests against three teams that, while tough, should regress in two of three cases, and the Aggies could be looking at 10-2.
Texas A&M's secret sauce for improvement in 2025 is simple but effective
The reason that those teams are set to regress, of course, is a loss of seniority in important places on their team— while the Aggies are set to take a step forward thanks to the reverse dynamic. A&M is one of the top-10 most experienced teams heading into this year, which, while not foolproof, is a pretty good way to see which teams will be making moves in a given season.
Again, there's a cavalcade of caveats here: this is all provided that the Aggies are able to avoid injury, which has been anything but a given in previous years. It's also worth mentioning that the receiving corps will be far different (if far upgraded) in this upcoming season compared to last year.
Even so, though, returning your top seven(!) offensive linemen, a starting QB who was really coming into his own down the stretch last year, and some of the most dynamic and effective rushing threats in the conference last season— not to mention a secondary that should be far improved— and it's not hard to see why A&M should take a step forward this year. If they can make it to that ten-win mark in the regular season, the momentum surrounding this program could begin to quicken even more— a scary thought for opponents.
