Texas A&M football WR Cyrus Allen declares intention to enter transfer portal
With the transfer portal window opening next Monday, Texas A&M football has seen a few players already announce their intentions to head to the transfer ranks. Neither of those players were big contributors, however, racking up very few stats in their time with Texas A&M.
That's the way it goes with the portal sometimes, though. You're missing out on potential more than any actual snaps or production, and the hope transfers with the outbound player.
This was not the case with the most recent player to announce his intentions to transfer away from the Aggies. Louisiana Tech WR transfer Cyrus Allen, who started most of the year for Texas A&M, has announced that he will be entering the portal.
Allen made a big impact with some catches and runs against McNeese and Florida, but was less of a factor as the year went on. He sustained an injury against New Mexico State, so he did not play in the final two games.
So, why the dropoff in production for Allen once he arrived in College Station? Was it a step up in competition? The scheme? It's tough to say.
What Aggie fans are hoping for as they see this news, though, is that this is a move precipitated by some other big dominoes about to fall for the Aggies. If A&M is about to go all-in to bring in a stud from the portal, then contributors like Allen may have been set to receive a far lesser share of snaps going forward.
We'll know soon enough, but with the noise going around about what the Ags may be pulling off at the WR spot here soon, I have an optimistic feeling. Best of luck, Cyrus!
