Texas A&M football CB Will Lee generating NFL Draft buzz after big few weeks
Coming into the season, every Texas A&M football fan knew that the defensive back group for this Aggie team would be far improved compared to last year. After years of threadbare depth at the position, the Aggies finally had a legitimate two-deep in the defensive backfield, and a considerable amount of starter-level players at the corner spot—a rarity in College Station since the Ags have been in the SEC.
Key to that quick turnaround at the position has been Will Lee. The Kansas State transfer has been huge for this Aggie team. Questions about his physicality have been quickly erased, as he has demonstrated ability in coverage as well as ability to make tackles in the open field and in the run game.
As of right now, Lee leads the entire SEC and is tied for first in the country in passes defended, having notched 8 PBUs (a stat in which he stands alone atop the nation) and 1 INT—and that's with having one taken away from him against Missouri. That alone doesn't make a DB elite, but it shows the fact that he has ball skills far outstripping any DB the Ags have had in quite some time.
Yes, Lee is having an All-SEC type of season so far. Hopefully, he will receive that recognition when the time comes. But it's not just the conference—or even the sport—that he's put on notice. Lee's remarkable play has attracted the attention of NFL draft analysts as we..
Dalton Miller, a draft guru primarily covering the Cowboys, had this to say about Lee after watching some tape.
He wrote more in-depth here (paywalled), but it's clear that Lee's play is beginning to draw attention from people covering the next level. Potential top-50 for a former 2-star player is high praise, but Lee is making it tough to argue against such a lofty designation. With any luck, he finishes out the season even stronger than he began it.
