Texas A&M fans recall the first big commitments to pop from the 2026 class, coming after last year's LSU game: Aaron Gregory and Jordan Carter out of the state of Georgia. Those two were ranked as top-100 prospects at the time that they committed, and getting them out of Georgia was a huge win.
It was one of those moments where the power of Kyle Field on recruits was put on full display, as a YouTube video detailing their visit and commitment was posted not long afterwards. Now, though, one of those two has backed off of his commitment, and Aggie fans are praying that it doesn't lead to a domino effect.
Jordan Carter was a defensive end commit for the Aggies in a class that was chock-full of them, but he has elected to open his recruitment back up as the recruiting stretch run approaches. He announced this via Hayes Fawcett earlier today— and it has some A&M fans spooked about whether teammate Aaron Gregory will do the same.
Four-star DE Jordan Carter decommits from Texas A&M; Will WR Aaron Gregory follow suit?
Carter has had a lot of interest from other schools closer to his home in Georgia, and he's not been afraid to visit over that time period. With an Aggie class packed full of defensive ends— guys like Samu Moala, Tristian Givens, and even a guy like Bryce Perry-Wright— maybe he saw an easier path elsewhere.
It also could be, however, that the Aggies feel as though they are closing in on an even bigger commit at the position. With rumors swirling about five-star Oregon DE commit Tank Jones, the Aggies could be in position there— not to mention Lamar Brown (though he plays along the interior of the line). It could be that Carter sees the way the wind is blowing there and felt as though he'd have better playing time prospects at a different spot.
For his part, it seems like the main worry for a lot of A&M fans— Aaron Gregory— is still locked in with the Aggies, according to Jaxson Callaway of On3:
Despite his teammate Jordan Carter decommitting from Texas A&M this morning, Aaron Gregory is still holding firm in his commitment, his dad tells AggieYell:

That, at least, is good news. Hopefully, this decommitment is a signal of another, bigger commit incoming for the Aggies rather than simply losing a pledge.
