Texas A&M misses on elite receiver recruit, but all is not yet lost in long term

Though the Aggies were not the pick today, Mike Elko and company have been great at playing the long game.

Texas A&M football was not the choice today for star DeSoto receiver Ethan "Boobie" Feaster, who ended up choosing the USC Trojans over the Aggies, LSU, and Alabama. Lincoln Riley and company came on with a huge surge of momentum over the last few days to get this one over the finish line— well, at least, this initial hurdle.

The Aggies were considered a favorite for quite some time, but now Feaster has pledged to make his way out ot LA. All is not lost, however— not by a long shot, as a matter of fact.

Feaster may have made this commitment today, but there's quite a ways to go until signing day. With a strong relationship still abiding with Aggie receiver coach Holmon Wiggins, and an established track record by the Ags of playing the long game well— see Lamont Rogers from last year— not to mention the local factor, this one is far from over.

The Aggies still stand at three receivers currently committed, including Aaron Gregory, Madden Williams, and Mike Brown. They could stand to add one or two more, and they're in an interesting position with current LSU commit and top-3 player overall Tristen Keys.

The Hattiesburg product committed to the Tigers while Feaster was trending heavily that way, all but completely drying up Feaster's interest in LSU. That's when A&M took the lead, which they held until USC came on here pretty recently.

If this is a Feaster-for-Keys swap, as the Ags have been standing in a great position to perhaps flip Keys here in the coming days, then I'm sure that there are fans who would be more than fine with that. Even so, it would be much better to snag both than just one, and I'm sure that the Aggie staff are working hard to do just that.

This is a recruitment that would drag out either way, so it's imperative that A&M has a big season this fall. Summer is all well and good, but the fall will decide how this class ends up.
