Texas A&M needs to be unabashed and shameless this weekend for Marcel Reed

Now is not the time for moderation when it comes to the Aggies' star quarterback.

Marcel Reed's Heisman campaign is continuing on apace, but as of right now, he is still being rather under-appreciated by the larger public, though the comeback against South Carolina is getting him some buzz. The Aggie social media team has been doing their level best to help sell Marcel's achievements, but the infatuation with Fernando Mendoza and Julian Sayin beating up on low-level defenses has been all too prevalent.

With that in mind, the Aggies have but one choice this weekend against the Samford Bulldogs. This is a mismatch to end all mismatches, with the Bulldogs coming in as not just an FCS team, but one of the worst teams in the FCS— the Aggies must not let this opportunity slip through their hands.

The time for honor and restraint has passed when it comes to this final stretch of a Heisman campaign. In a world where not a word has been spilled about Mendoza racking up 6 total touchdowns against Indiana State, nor Julian Sayin notching 4 touchdowns on 16.1 YPA against Grambling State, it's time for this Aggie coaching staff to run up some numbers against Samford.

Texas A&M needs to be unabashed about running it up on Samford for Marcel Reed's Heisman campaign

Every team who front loaded their cupcakes has tried to sneak their statistics against these teams into their totals when comparing their QBs to Marcel, but he has yet to receive the benefits of playing such a bad team. He's stacked up quite nicely even without those benefits— and playing under a coach who took the first two games against cupcakes to experiment with different lineups and strategies— but now it's time to kick things into overdrive.

Samford gives up the most sacks in the FCS. Set Howell and company loose so that the Bulldogs can pick up nary a single first down throughout the game (boost his Lombardi chances while you're at it). Give Marcel the ball at every possibility. Score ten touchdowns. I don't even care anymore.

Let's be clear: Marcel will not win the Heisman without a big performance in Austin and then in Atlanta. But in a world where armchair experts sit and box score-watch to craft narratives, you have to take care of the numbers argument. If Cignetti pads Mendoza's stats against Kennesaw, Old Dominion, and Indiana State, then Elko can do so for Marcel in this game.
