Texas A&M fans everywhere were incensed when their quarterback commit, Helaman Casuga of Corner Canyon, Utah, didn't get any sort of ratings bump after finishing in a close second at the Elite 11. Not only would this have been impressive for a healthy quarterback, but Casuga was coming off of a season-ending injury, so it should have been even that much more notable.
Instead, he remains a fringe top-250 prospect on some sites, despite demonstrating quite clearly that he's a superior passer to several ranked ahead of him. Since he didn't have much junior tape thanks to the aforementioned injury, though, his play in his senior year could help him take that leap.
That senior year is off to a roaring start, it looks like. Casuga and Corner Canyon played their opening game last night, and the highlights that are emerging of the Aggie QB commit are enough to make believers out of even the most skeptical fan.

That was a dot of a throw that traveled more than 50 yards in the air. That's some pretty top-shelf passing right there.
Hitting receivers in stride down the field is obviously key, but the off-platform pass in the next clip is even more impressive.

The anticipation and ability to get the throw right in the spot where it needs to be, all while throwing at an awkward angle with defenders bearing down, is nothing short of elite. That's somethign that bodes extremely well for his prospective rise in rankings and career with A&M.
If Casuga keeps this kind of play up, he should get some serious attention from around the nation, which Elko and company need to be ready for. He's been really locked in with the Aggies, but after Husan Longstreet's late flip last year, you can never be too careful.
Regardless, this is some pretty amazing stuff from Helaman. I'm sure we'll see more and more clips like this as the season moves along.
