Texas A&M football not only sees bowl opponent's roster continue to dwindle, but could become direct benificiary via transfer portal
Texas A&M football is in the midst of completely remaking their wide receiver room. With the incoming five-star Jerome Myles, and now having landed two starter-level talents in Mario Craver and Micah Hudson, Holmon Wiggins and company are finding some big time answers for what has been a position of need.
Of course, the Ags have some top-level players on campus in Terry Bussey and Noah Thomas, too. Adding all of that together means that Aggies are closing in on a truly intimidating WR unit with a couple more names.
Mike Elko indicated in his press conference today that A&M is not quite done at the receiver spot. Guys like Nic Anderson are still out there without having made a decision, and there are more portal entries yet to come.
One such entry just happened today as a part of a pair— and whether or not both end up with the Aggies, they'll benefit anyway. Zach and Zion Branch, two starters for Southern California, Texas A&M's bowl opponent, have announced that they will enter the portal.
It's very much worth noting that Zachariah Branch, while committed to Lincoln Riley, gave a long look to the Aggies under Jimbo Fisher. Another one of his finalists? Alabama— where his primary recruiter was Holmon Wiggins.
So, does this mean the Aggies are set to land Branch? Far from it— when it comes to the portal, anything goes. But there's a lot that makes sense here: the Ags are in need of both receivers and safeties, there's previous relationships with the staff, and the program was a finalist for at least one of the two previously.
If Mike Elko and Holmon Wiggins can pull this off, it will be completely massive for the Aggies. There's no secondary in the country that would be able to hold down Branch and Bussey for an entire game; this would completely remake the Aggies' passing attack. Here's hoping that's exactly what we see happen in the coming days.
