Texas A&M's dominance might have just bullied LSU into firing Brian Kelly

Things are happening pretty quickly down on the Bayou, and the Aggies are the ones responsible.

After the complete shellacking that Texas A&M laid on LSU last night, the vibes in Baton Rouge have never been lower. All day, the Tiger fanbase has been clamoring for Brian Kelly to be relieved of his duties headed into the bye week, and now that noise is beginning to find some traction.

Ross Dellenger of Yahoo! Sports has been reporting today that "high-level" meetings have been going on in Baton Rouge about the future of Brian Kelly and the program. The $53 million elephant in the room, of course, is the Scott Woodward signature buyout that the Tigers offered Kelly as part of his contract, which is a big reason why steps have not already been taken. Things have gotten so bad that the Governor of Louisiana has been weighing in publicly on the disappointment that this year has been for LSU:

As the situation has evolved, though, the Tigers brass has apparently all been trending towards the same decision— and it's not a rosy picture for the LSU head coach. Texas A&M's dominance down in Death Valley may have been the last straw— or the last fifty— that it took for the Tigers to do away with Brian Kelly.

Texas A&M might have just bullied LSU into firing their head coach, Brian Kelly

Matt Zenitz's latest report for CBS Sports is that things are moving towards the Tigers and Brian Kelly "parting ways":

Maybe that will be announced as a firing, maybe not, but one way or another, it's looking quite unlikely that Kelly returns as the head coach for the Tigers next year. In one sense, that's a negative for the Aggies, as he's been a fun punching bag over the last four years, but there are certainly a lot of advantages that the Aggies can capitalize on as well— not least of which are on the recruiting trail.

A team meeting has been called for LSU at 8 PM central, which sounds an awful lot like a death knell for Kelly's tenure. This one could be over and done with pretty quickly— and the Aggies are left holding the executioner's axe.
