Texas A&M football is in a massive recruiting race that looks to be coming into the closing stretch, and Mike Elko and staff are doing everything they can to get ahead. Tank Jones, a twitched-up, uber-athletic edge rusher from Mobile, Alabama, is a five-star prospect that the Aggies are battling Alabama and Oregon for— and it looks like that battle could be coming to a close soon.
Recent intel from several different outlets has indicated that the recruitment could be coming to an end sooner rather than later. In a heavyweight battle like this, nothing is over until the ink is dry, but whoever lands this initial pledge could be in a great spot.

After the Aggies missing out on Lamar Brown, Jones has been a must-get. His presence would shift the entire outlook of what is already a great defensive line group, and in combination with Bryce Perry-Wright and Tristian Givens, Aggie fans could see a ferocious pass rush that they haven't witnessed since Myles Garrett was in the Maroon and White.

The Aggies have been in this heavyweight fight for quite some time, and they're a school that Jones clearly feels good about, given that they're in his top group and he has been a constant visitor in College Station. The more that comes out about this recruitment, the better Aggie fans have been feeling as well.
Recruiting insider Landyn Rosow recently put out a piece on Texas A&M Aggies on SI that indicated that the Ags are trending for the five-star pass rusher. There has been a lot of chatter in other quarters that has echoed this sentiment as well.
If the Aggies can land Jones, they would take another huge step towards a top-3 class, with a number-one overall finish once more in their grasp (though some big time flips would still be needed). That makes this one of the most important recruitments left on the board— and you can bet that the Aggies' staff is treating it as such.
