Conner Weigman's new situation at Houston seems to be working out well for every party involved in the situation. The Aggie fanbase was sad to see him go in one sense, as he represented a lot of promise and hope for the team at one point in his career, but it was also time.
This led to one of the more cordial partings that you'll see in the transfer portal era, and Conner found his way down the road to the University of Houston— a homecoming for the graduate of Bridgeland High School. The Aggies, of course, then turned their focus onto Marcel Reed's development.
Weigman's talent that flashed so obviously yet so inconsistently up in College Station is enough to really make some noise in the Big 12, especially when coached by Willie Fritz. The head man for the Cougars sounded off about Weigman at Big 12 Media Days, and offered his thoughts on Weigman's journey so far.
Willie Fritz praises Conner Weigman, mentions "up and down" situation in College Station
Fritz is clearly happy to have a hometown five-star kid captaining his offense for the Cougars, and he had a few words for the situation that Conner had been facing up in College Station.

I think Fritz's characterization of the situation is pretty fair, all things considered. Weigman's career was a bit of a roller coaster as far as fan excitement while in College Station. He was viewed as a savior early on and the key in his second year before the injury.
The high level of anticipation for his junior season all but entirely evaporated in some quarters after the Notre Dame performance. When he came back against Mizzou and looked every bit of his former self, though, the excitement began to build again. After LSU, when the reins were handed back over to Marcel permanently, the writing was on the wall.
The coaching changes are important here. Jimbo was the offensive architect in 2022, then it was Petrino in 2023, before Klein came in this past year. That's a new system each year— which, to be fair, he'll be doing again for the Cougars (though Fritz's seems definitely QB-friendly).
Hopefully, Conner is able to ball out for the Cougars this season. I think he's found himself a great spot, and I wouldn't be surprised to see UH doing some great things on offense this fall.
