Texas A&M vs Texas kickoff time will have Longhorns quaking in their boots

The Aggies' showdown with the Longhorns has a kickoff time— and it's the exact opposite of what Texas fans wanted to see.

Texas A&M is looking to take out some revenge on the Texas Longhorns this season after Texas's improbable victory in Austin last year derailed the Aggies' SEC Championship designs. Their chances to do so just got a big time boost, as the kickoff time for the Lone Star Showdown has been officially announced.

Texas A&M vs. Texas will kick off at 7:30 PM ET and 6:30 PM CT on Friday, November 27, 2026. Just like the last two years, this means that the Aggies and Longhorns will pretty much be the only game in town in their time slot— the game got moved to Friday last year for the foreseeable future, but even when it was played on Saturday in 2024, this was the game that got the most attention.

This is an announcement that has Longhorn fans pale in the face and quaking in their boots. Though it always seemed likely that A&M and Texas would have a late kick, the prospect of facing the wrath of Kyle Field in this timeslot is something that Longhorn fans are not looking forward to.

Texas A&M vs. Texas kick time is the exact last thing Longhorn fans wanted to see

The last time that Texas A&M hosted the Longhorns, Texas far underperformed in front of a raucous crowd that stayed in the game the entire time— despite the winning effort over Mike Elko's first Aggie team (one that was already pretty bruised and battered), it was a close call of the highest order for Texas. The Aggie team that will meet Texas this season will be far better than that 2024 squad, and it is very doubtful that the Longhorns will be as good as they were that year, when they advanced to the national semifinal— even getting a CFP berth is very much in doubt for Texas this season.

Having to face down Kyle Field at full power is not something that will help the Longhorns in that respect at all. Texas could very well have three or four losses coming into that game already, while the Aggies will no doubt be right in the middle of College Football Playoff contention once more.

Texas A&M has been great at home in night games over the last few years. Last season, the Aggies were 3-0 in such games, with an average margin of victory of 19 points. Against top-6 teams at home since 2020, the Aggies are 3-1, showing just how difficult it can be for highly-ranked teams to win in Kyle.

The Aggies' overall record in home night games in the Mike Elko era is a formidable 6-2, and both of those losses came to teams that finished in the top four in Elko's first year. The Home of the 12th Man, under Elko's program, has kept its reputation as one of the hardest places to play in the entire nation.

Longhorns can try to deny it or run from it, but the fact of the matter is this: having to play at Kyle Field in a night game is a disaster for any team facing the Aggies. Texas A&M has to be feeling better and better about their chances in this year's edition of the Lone Star Showdown, while Longhorns' sentiment is trending in the exact opposite direction.
