The bullet A&M fans dodged is exactly the same one that Arkansas fans are taking now

Texas A&M fans are lucky they avoided this.

Texas A&M fans remember what could've been a nightmare after Jimbo Fisher was fired from the program.

There was a revolt from the Texas A&M faithful to avoid signing Mark Stoops as the head coach. While the SEC's longest-tenured coach leads Kentucky football in all-time wins, the Wildcats have been nothing more than just an average team during Stoops' tenure.

This goes to show that the voice of your fan base does matter, and unfortunately for Arkansas, Razorback fans are experiencing what Texas A&M fans would've experienced if they had followed through with Stoops. Arkansas fans are protesting the hiring of their new head coach, Ryan Silverfield, and some are calling for the firing of their Athletic Director, Hunter Yurachek.

Texas A&M fans revolted against Mark Stoops; Arkansas fans doing the same with Ryan Silverfield hiring

You get the picture. Brown paper bags over everybody's heads. It's safe to say this is going to backfire, big time.

Make no mistake about this. This is an extremely unpopular hire for Arkansas. Razorback football has been relevant in some form or fashion, and fans feel like the program is just settling at this point. It's nothing against Ryan Silverfield. He had quite a career at Memphis, going 50-25 as the HC. This is a great opportunity for him and his family, and sadly, he has to go through something like this.

I fully believe that the voice of the Aggie fan base would've been thunderous, and if Stoops was really hired as the head coach back in late 2023, I fully believe he would still not be the head coach today. A&M was only known for an Orange Bowl win in the COVID season under Fisher, and he never developed his top recruits well enough. It would've been a lot worse with Stoops at the helm.

It also shows how Texas A&M made the right decision in hiring Elko. Texas A&M finished with an 11-1 regular season, with hopes of playing in a home playoff game. And give credit to Collin Klein, Jay Bateman and Lyle Hemphill for their work as well— A&M clearly did the right thing.

Let's see how this transpires for Arkansas, because it looks like Ole Miss is crashing and burning as we speak. Let's see if Texas A&M can take advantage of the portal here. Some of Sam Pittman's recruits definitely won't be staying for this.
