The Texas A&M Aggies have been playing the long game when it comes to 5-star recruit Lamar Brown. The number one overall recruit in the class of 2026 by ESPN has been a name floating in the recruiting world for a while, and all of a sudden, we can expect his name to still be out there.

Brown has already committed to LSU, but there have been times when the window has been open for Texas A&M to make an argument, such as the win against the Tigers. Texas A&M ended up being the last straw for Brian Kelly, as he was fired less than 24 hours after the game concluded.

A bombshell announcement just came out about Brown's future, as he won't be expected to sign during the Early Signing Period, according to his agents, who tell Rivals.

5-star prospect Lamar Brown puts a hold on signing with LSU

If Brown and his agents are trying to make this as dramatic as possible, they're doing a great job. Here's a subliminal message from Brown on Tuesday evening after their 4-star WR Kenny Darby decommitted from LSU.

Lane Kiffin had met with Brown shortly after Kiffin was named the LSU head coach. It seemed like Brown was all-in for Kiffin, but that appears to have changed. We don't know if this is automatically great news for Texas A&M, but this is terrible for LSU football.

We could end up in a standoff with Brown's announcement, and it appears that he still needs some time to think about what has happened to LSU football over the past few days. LSU is still in the best spot possible, as a Kelly to Kiffin transition shouldn't hurt their recruiting class that much.

If Brown does end up taking the leap of faith to College Station, LSU fans would never forget it. Mike Elko would be a legend. The Tigers had their 5-star athlete as a lock for the most part. Texas A&M was always in the picture, and now, apparently, they still are.

There's still some hope here for the Aggies, but for now, this is a laugh for Aggies fans, while Tigers fans remain on the edge of their seats.
