The 2025 schedule for Texas A&M football is similar in almost every way to the 2024 schedule— the conference opponents are entirely the same, and so is their marquee non-conference opponent— yet the complexion is actually quite different in total. What was seen as a relatively light schedule for the Aggies last year is now viewed in a completely different light.
That has everything to do with the fact that the venues for all repeated opponents have been swapped. Though the Aggies played LSU, Texas, Notre Dame, and Missouri at home in 2024, they have to play them on the road in 2025.
That means that the task is just that much harder. Given that A&M went 2-2 in those games last year, they had better be improved— or their opponent be less challenging— from where they were in last year's games for their dreams of playoff contention to be realized.
One of those road games from 2024 that the Aggies will have coming home in 2025, however, is maybe the most key game on the schedule. Texas A&M's unexpected loss to Auburn late in the year in 2024 set off a major chain reaction, and they need revenge in the worst way.
Texas A&M must defeat Auburn in 2025 to have the season they dream of
The Tigers will face off with the Aggies in week 5— September 27, after the Aggies have a bye week. A&M will have completed their first three games— UTSA and Utah State at home, and then a trip to South Bend.
Whether or not the Aggies have lost to Notre Dame the week prior, defeating Auburn is an absolute must. If the Ags are 3-0, it would be a major momentum-stopper to lose to the Tigers; if they are 2-1, they cannot lose this first home conference game with so many more difficult games upcoming.
The Tigers should have a decently improved team in the upcoming year, so this will be no easy task. Cam Coleman, a former Aggie commit who helped carve up the A&M secondary in 2024, will be back, along with transfer QB Jackson Arnold.
However, they have to deal with the Aggies on the road— and this comes as the second game of a back-to-back conference road trip for the Tigers. That alone should give A&M fans some solace as they contemplate this game.
This will sneak up on some Aggie fans, but it's an absolutely key matchup for the complexion of the 2025 season. If the Aggies are 4-0 coming out of this one, it will mean they have big things ahead.
