Texas A&M OC Collin Klein is out the door to be the head coach at Kansas State, as it was reported this morning by a local Manhattan, KS newspaper. This disorients the Aggies greatly, as it came about pretty suddenly— there was not a lot of buzz that Chris Klieman would be retiring, so this all came together very quickly.
With that in mind, though, Mike Elko must move fast to replace the Aggie offensive coordinator. Here are three names that he must get on the phone with immediately to bring in for the job.
Who Mike Elko must tab as Texas A&M OC after Collin Klein: Notre Dame's Mike Denbrock
Denbrock already has quite the decorated resume to his name, coordinating the offense that won Jayden Daniels the Heisman trophy in 2023 at LSU. Now, he's up in South Bend, and has continued his wizardry under the purview of Marcus Freeman.
The Irish offensive coordinator oversaw a potent unit helmed by Riley Leonard last year, and has put together an even better offense this season with a completely different style of quarterback in CJ Carr. Having Jeremiyah Love helps a lot, it must be said, but the schematic versatility that Denbrock has exhibited is something that is very appealing.
It won't be easy to get a guy out of Notre Dame, but the Aggies did that exact thing when they hired Mike Elko the first time— not to mention the fact that the Irish originally wanted Collin Klein before he eventually chose the Aggies.
