Who Mike Elko must tab as Texas A&M OC after Collin Klein: Indiana's Mike Shanahan
Shanahan is a play caller who has been at Curt Cignetti's side dating back to their days at James Madison. That will come with some loyalty to the head man in Bloomington, of course, but there are a lot of reasons that the Aggies could be a more appealing job.
For whatever jabs opposing fans can make at the Aggies' football legacy, it's certainly stronger than that of IU, and the recruiting is there to prove it. That has to be appealing to a guy like Shanahan, as well as the salary package that Elko and the Aggies would be able to offer.
Shanahan runs a very balanced offense, which is appealing to Aggie fans who have grown used to seeing the same out of Klein's system. Being able to run the ball to great effect is a must for the Aggies' next hire, and while Shanahan may not have the same level of creativity on that front as Klein does, he certainly can get the job done.
The loyalty piece could be hard to overcome, but this would be a big time move for the Aggies if they can pull it off. It would be quite the statement to the rest of the country, as well as a move that keeps the elite level of offense we've seen out of the Aggies this year going.
