Texas A&M needs better QB play to ascend to next level
I'm not necessarily calling for the replacement of Marcel Reed as signal caller— he was a Heisman candidate right up until the final weekend, after all— but something does have to change at the position for the Aggies to have the success that they desire.
Reed's legs are an element of this offense that is very troubling to defenses, but his issues turned from subtly troubling to glaring in the final few games of the year. In particular, the red zone turnovers are complete killers to the Aggie offense, and Marcel had one in the Aggies' final play of 2025.
He was also missing some wide-open receivers in this game. For whatever complaints can be laid at the feet of Collin Klein, who has unjustly been something of a punching bag for fans over the last two years, he had plays schemed up well that Reed was simply not executing on in this one.
The Aggies need a more consistent passer back there if they want to continue their ascent. Reed can be that guy with some more improvement— it will be interesting to see who the Aggies hire as QBs coach with Klein departing— but it's possible that that may not happen until Reed is no longer in Aggieland.
