Three DC candidates Texas A&M football should consider if Jay Bateman is fired

Texas A&M football fans are disgruntled with the way the defense shaped up this season— as is Elko. If the Aggies move on at DC, here's who they should look at.

If Texas A&M football moves on at defensive coordinator, here are three names to watch

Texas A&M football fans are still irate about the way the Aggie defense apparently disintegrated down the stretch of the season. Through 8 games, the most that the Aggies had allowed to any team was 24 points; in their final 5 games, they allowed 40+ twice and 30+ three times.

In other words, rather than steadily improving game by game, the Aggies faltered in the home stretch— and it wasn't on account of facing elite offenses, either. South Carolina put up 44 on the Ags, and Auburn notched 31 points in regulation.

Elko himself had some harsh words for the defense's performance after the bowl game collapse, leading many to believe that some changes could be inbound. If the Aggies move on from Jay Bateman at defensive coordinator, here are some names to watch.

Three potential DC candidates for Texas A&M football - Adam Fuller

The former DC for the Florida State Seminoles, despite issues this past year, is the first name that comes to mind. The FSU defense was elite this past season, and Fuller has coordinated more than one top unit in his time as a coach.

He was fired this year after an all-around collapse by the team, but many consider him a scapegoat of some larger issues. He's a solid recruiter and his scheme coheres well with Elko's philosophy.

Those factors, in addition to the fact that he's currently unemployed, make him a strong candidate if the Aggies move on from Bateman. If that announcement comes down the pike, keep an eye on Fuller.
