Three DC candidates Texas A&M football should consider if Jay Bateman is fired

Texas A&M football fans are disgruntled with the way the defense shaped up this season— as is Elko. If the Aggies move on at DC, here's who they should look at.

Three potential DC candidates for Texas A&M football - Tyler Santucci

In contrast to Fuller, Santucci is not only employed, but recently has been nominated for several honors, including the Broyles Award— the award given out to the nation's top assistant coach— last year. He worked with Mike Elko at Duke to put together a complete defensive overhaul in Durham, and has coordinated a great defense for Georgia Tech this year.

There's no question about the fit in this one. Santucci has worked with Elko at many stops and knows his defense well. He's had great success as Elko's DC when at Duke, and the two clearly work well together.

Some fans may be hesitant due to previous recruiting battles in which Santucci, as the Aggies' LBs coach, came out on the wrong side— Harold Perkins being the most notable one. However, I'm not sure that will play into things if Elko begins to evaluate Santucci for a possible DC spot.

This would be the safest option, in my opinion. Santucci and Elko know each other well, and they have had a previous track record of success. I think Georgia Tech would be highly motivated to keep Santucci, but if A&M really wanted him, they could pull it off.
