After Bucky McMillan and Texas A&M Basketball lost their fourth straight game in a row, there is rightfully a lot of panic and frustration among the fanbase. Bucky Ball was off to a 7-1 start in SEC conference play, held first place in the conference for a time, and now have tumbled down the standings.
With the loss, there are a couple of hard truths for fans to face, but also some signs of optimism. Let's get into the takeaways from this loss.
Three key takeaways from Aggies' loss to Vanderbilt: Aggies' NCAA tournament chances are dwindling fast
First and foremost, this team will be lucky to be in the NCAA tournament this year. We knew this coming into the season and have largely been led to believe that this team was a shoo-in for the tournament.
Losses to Oklahoma State and UCF are only looking worse and could easily come back to haunt this team on Selection Sunday. Doesn't help that the Aggies had a fairly bad out of conference strength of schedule and zero quad 1 wins before conference play.
This next week has become must win if this team wants to make the postseason. With only 6 games left, the Aggies certainly don't have any game that is "unwinnable" but they definitely don't have any guaranteed wins either.
With a home game against Ole Miss and road trip to Oklahoma on deck, those games are absolutely necessary to win with a trip to Arkansas and home games against Texas and Kentucky to follow. 4-2 to close out the regular season should have the Aggies safely in the tournament field. 3-3 or worse may mean a trip to the CBT or NIT.
