Texas A&M is still basking in the 4-0 glow after taking Auburn down in a highly physical, highly-penalized game yesterday.
Here's what we can take away from this win for Texas A&M.
Three takeaways from Texas A&M's win over Auburn: The defense can win Texas A&M some games
Every Texas A&M fan has been waiting to see this kind of a performance out of the Aggie defense this entire year, but this is the first time we've seen all of it come together like this.
The Aggies held Auburn to exactly one yard in the fourth quarter and made some massive plays with the game hanging in the balance. The sacks on the final two Auburn possessions halted any sense of momentum the Tigers might have had, and it turned the volume in Kyle Field up to 11 on a day where the AU offensive line was already struggling mightily with false starts.
The impressive stats don't stop there, however. The Aggies were able to prevent Auburn from converting a single third or fourth down throughout the day, holding them to 0/13 on third and 0/2 on fourth down. If that's not a dominant defensive performance, I don't know what is.
They also completely stopped down one of the best backs in the SEC in Jeremiah Cobb. He could find no purchase against this A&M front as they won in the trenches time and time again.
A word must also be said about the game that Taurean York had, as well. The junior linebacker was all over the place against the Tigers, sniffing out screens, dropping Jackson Arnold for losses, and overall playing like a complete monster. The Aggies needed a big game out of him with Scooby Williams missing, and he delivered without a doubt.
