Three things to keep an eye on in Texas A&M football's spring game
Texas A&M football will have their annual spring game this weekend. The Aggies are coming up on what many fans hope to be a big 2025, so this will be our first glimpse of how the team looks for that year.
Here are three factors to watch closely for Aggie fans this Saturday.
Who shines at safety?
Texas A&M football was victimized far too often last year by the long ball, with the Aggies' pass defense looking out of sorts for much of the back half of the season. Though Bryce Anderson was considered to be a bright spot coming into the year, he looked disappointing at his safety spot.
I don't expect him to get edged out already, but the Aggies have some talent upcoming at the position. Both Myles Davis and Jordan Pride came in as highly-rated recruits, for example, and we know how good Dalton Brooks has been.
With this being the spring game, we'll see plenty of rotation at all spots. I'd watch the safety spot to see who makes some plays.
Backup quarterback intrigue
Marcel Reed will be the starter next year barring something extremely unexpected. But it's who's behind him that Aggie fans should keep an eye on.
At some point, we have to be realistic: the Aggies have had multiple starting quarterbacks every single year since 2020. With Reed's dynamic run game playing in with Klein's offense, there is a non-zero risk of injury.
Hopefully this is a moot point, but just in case, I'd watch Jacob Zeno and Miles O'Neill to see how they look in this one. You'd hope that A&M fans end up only watching Reed in big moments next year, but you never know.
Can new cadre of receivers impress?
The Aggies completely remade this room through the portal. Now, we get to see if they live up to the challenge.
KC Concepcion has already drawn some rave reviews this spring, and I expect him to be the true number one for the Ags. Ashton Bethel-Roman is another name to keep an eye on.
I'd look closely at Mario Craver, the Mississippi State transfer, as well. One thing to watch is that most of these guys have similar play styles, so where Klein ends up lining them up will be interesting.
