Three predictions for Texas A&M football in 2025 season: Aggies boast physicality, tough run game in upcoming season
Texas A&M football is looking to improve in several huge areas next season. The Aggies had a disappointing end to 2024, but there's plenty of reason to believe they can make some strides in the upcoming year.
Mike Elko taking over the defense, as has been rumored, and the return of a veteran offensive line should boost confidence in these Aggies. That's not even to mention the continued development of Marcel Reed, who looks to be one of the most exciting young players in the nation.
Here are three predictions for what we could see next season out of the Ags.
Marcel Reed leads SEC QBs in rush yards
Reed comes into the year as one of the more dynamic players in the SEC. He wowed teams with his ability to escape the pocket time and time again this past year, but it was his open field running ability that really set him apart.
His moves to evade defenders once he breaks the pocket are unrivaled in the conference. The biggest question here is durability: the other guys who will vie for this title— LaNorris Sellers, Arch Manning, DJ Lagway among them— are bigger and more solid players, while Reed is on the smaller side.
If he can stand up to the punishment week in and week out, though, I think his running ability will have him rise to the top in this category. I'm excited to see what he can accomplish this upcoming year.
Le'Veon Moss leads SEC in rushing TDs
We've already seen the effect that Collin Klein's offense had on the Aggies' red zone capabilities. They were one of the worst teams at scoring from inside the 20 in 2023, and last year they were one of the best at getting the ball into the end zone.
That has mostly to do with the creativity in the run game that Klein showcases. For as upset as fans were at the back to back run calls against Texas that got stuffed at the one, Klein more than made up for it in the aggregate with his play designs to score in the red zone.
Moss will be the biggest beneficiary here. Especially if we're talking solely SEC games, I think no. 8 in maroon will run away with this title if he can avoid injury.
Aggies in top 3 in SEC in rush defense
With Mike Elko returning to the helm of the defense, I anticipate the Aggies being much better on that side of the ball. It was the rush defense that took the biggest jump from 2017 to 2018, the first time that Elko took over the Aggie defense.
I think A&M, even though they lose a lot along the defensive line, will benefit from not only the change at DC, but the continuity at linebacker and safety. Albert Regis's presence in the middle will be big here as well.
There will be some stout teams in the conference in this regard, but the Aggies should stand up to the best of them. I've got the Aggies as a top-three team in the SEC in rush defense next year.
