Trev Alberts' cryptic Michael Earley comments are more revealing than he knew

The Texas A&M athletic director had the question put to him during a short interview session, and fans are having to read between the lines of his answer.

With Texas A&M baseball officially missing the NCAA tournament following their preseason number one ranking, things are trending towards changes at the top of the program. Insiders and fans all seem to expect that there will be a move made here pretty presently, as the Aggies seem poised to take a big swing.

Of course, this is all speculation at this point. Those responsible for making the actual decision have remained silent in public about the future of the program at the head coaching position, which isn't surprising— it's only been two days since the Aggies officially learned that they aren't in the field of 64, though it was suspected for longer than that.

At the SEC coaches meetings down in Destin, Trev Alberts spoke to the media briefly about a range of topics, but as you would expect, he answered rather diplomatically. Even so, that hasn't stopped fans from reading in between the lines of his comments— and the subtext seems grave for Michael Earley.

Trev Alberts 'assessing' baseball situation after 'frustrating' season

You can view Alberts' comments, courtesy of Texags, in the post below:

Though Alberts makes much of the fact that he has yet to sit down with Earley and discuss how the season went, his perspective is clear and realistic: the season was frustrating and disappointing, especially given the attention the program was receiving in the preseason.

Alberts says that "at the appropriate time," there will be an opportunity to talk about baseball. This is only my inference, but that sounds to me as though there's a foreshadowing of a press conference coming, which seems as though it's bad news for Earley— I don't imagine they would hold one unless they fire him and hire someone else.

His second set of comments is even more interesting and reassuring for Texas A&M baseball fans. He smacks down the notion that the Aggies will make decisions out of "economic concerns," which dismisses the idea that A&M may stand pat if they can't afford a buyout. That's good news, especially given the massive severance that the Aggies are still feeling with the dismissal of Jimbo Fisher in late 2023.

These seem like the comments of a man who is at least ready for, if not actively anticipating, a change and a big swing, as insiders have been indicating. Here's hoping the Aggies land the big fish they are searching for.
