Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko isn't going anywhere in the near future, as news broke this morning that the Aggies are signing him to a massive extension in light of the hugely successful season that the Ags are currently having. After a hard pursuit by Penn State and others— one that led to a Nittany Lions beat writer even predicting that Elko would end up in Happy Valley— the Ags have locked their man down.
The mere fact that he's not going anywhere is cause enough for celebration, but it goes even further than that. As every Aggie fan knows, Mike Elko is a highly intelligent guy, and so his desires in his new contract demonstrate his program-first approach in a way that should overjoy the A&M fiathful.
Texas A&M fans exuberant over every single little detail in Mike Elko's massive new extension
The news came down quickly that a big piece of Elko's extension involved "significant investment in the resources for the program," per Pat Forde. That shows just how strongly Elko believes in doing whatever it takes to keep the Aggies at the forefront of the sport, rather than getting every last penny for himself.
Sources confirm. Mike Elko is finalizing a new six-year contract expected to make him one the top five paid coaches in the country, with significant investment in the resources for the program. @RossDellenger first.

And that completely makes sense. Whereas other coaches may want to grab for status with a high yearly dollar amount, Elko is not only getting what he's worth, but showing that he's dedicated to winning.
Texas A&M is 9-0 for the first time since 1992 and 6-0 in the SEC for the first time in program history.

Penn State pursued Mike Elko, but he’s staying put at Texas A&M. Working to confirm the new contract details — imagine A&M will announce it soon. https://t.co/CjOuo9Zn96

Tim Tebow had some glowing praise for Elko in light of this news:
"[Mike Elko] builds complete teams." @TimTebow says Texas A&M has no weaknesses 👀 @AggieFootball pic.twitter.com/EzObUC0jD9

Aggie fans didn't hesitate to rub it in a little bit in the direction of Penn State fans, who had been trying to will this into existence for some time now.
But but hit he’s got all those east coast connections

The contract is for quite the number, but Elko has earned every bit of it.
That’s a bargain tbh

This is a huge win for the Aggies, who demonstrate that this is indeed one of the best jobs in the nation. Penn State is a blue blood and they threw everything they could at the Aggies' head man, but they couldn't move him off the spot— despite the insistence of a suspiciously interested bunch down in Austin. The Aggies are rolling, and they are not going to slow down.
