Texas A&M recruiting ranking updates: Collin Klein's handpicked quarterback commit is in freefall
Texas A&M's quarterback commitment, Jayce Johnson, fell over 100 spots in the most recent update, going from a fringe top-50 player to outside the top 150 players in the nation. That's not what you want to see from a signal caller that you got in the class early on in the running.
When Johnson committed to Texas A&M not long ago, he was considered a project as a passer— though one that has all of the physical tools necessary to excel at the position. His massive frame and athleticism buoyed him a lot, and when he is on, he looks like a savant, but the consistency hasn't been there, which looks to be a big reason for his drop in rating.
Florida State has made it no secret that they are heavily after the passer from South Georgia, and they are pushing hard to get Johnson on campus. Given that Johnson was Collin Klein's hand-picked recruit at the position, will Holmon Wiggins feel as strongly about keeping him in the commit list?
In the day and age of recruiting that we currently inhabit, there is a level of resource investment you have to consider as a staff— that includes resources like time investment. It will be interesting to track Johnson's continued development over his senior season and where the Aggies go from here in this recruitment if the Seminoles continue to push.
