Way too early power ranking for 2025 SEC football: 2 - Tennessee

Tennessee’s first-ever foray into the college football playoff ended with a whimper rather than a bang. The Volunteers got absolutely smoked in the Horseshoe by the eventual national champions.

The level at which OSU was playing obviously meant that there wasn’t a team in the country that could compete with them, but the Vols didn’t even look close. That said, I think they can still make some big strides next year.

That’s premised mostly on my faith in Nico Iamaleava, who I still think has a chance to be one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC. He had some trouble adjusting to the speed of the game last year, but he has the ability to make some pretty special throws. If Heupel can harness that effectively, Tennessee will once again be a contender in 2025.
