Way too early power ranking for 2025 SEC football: 1 - Georgia

Like it or not, Smart and the Bulldogs are on top up until they aren’t. Even with Carson Beck’s departure, I still have UGA as top dog in the conference.

Gunnar Stockton had flashes of brilliance in the SEC championship, then not much against Notre Dame. But the return of a guy like Nate Frazier, who felt a bit underutilized last year, and the addition of Zach Branch to this offense could mean some major improvement in the upcoming season.

Georgia is as stacked as ever on the defensive side of the ball as well. No surprises there. The Dawgs have another tough schedule, just like last year, but getting Alabama, Ole Miss, and Texas at home will help them have a better record in those games than 2024’s 1-2 mark.

The Bulldogs are not as untouchable a number one as they have been in previous years, but for now they sit atop the pack. Smart’s shield of invincibility has cracked a little bit— a year like 2021 or 2022, though, could repair that image fully.
