Way too early power ranking for 2025 SEC football: 9 - Auburn

The Auburn Tigers are in a make it or break it year for Hugh Freeze. If they don’t see some pretty substantial improvements in the third year of this regime, then you’d better be prepared to see a lot of rumblings about Freeze’s future.

Luckily for Freeze, it looks like the Tigers may finally have a better option at quarterback than Payton Thorne. With another year under Cam Coleman’s belt, that could be pretty massive for the Auburn offense.

Losing Jarquez Hunter is not insignificant for the Tigers, as he was the biggest single piece of their offense this previous year. It’s been the run game rather than the pass game that’s excelled for Freeze in his first two years in Auburn, and Hunter was the most significant reason why.

If they can cobble together a consistent passing offense, then they’ll be able to improve. If they can’t, they won’t— it’s about that simple for the Tigers.
