SEC Power Rankings after week 4: Florida rises as Lone Star teams tumble
16. Arkansas
Arkansas took care of business against Tulsa on the back of a huge day from Chris Marshall. They are heading off to College Station to face a struggling Texas A&M team, but the odds are still pretty long that they emerge with a win.
15. South Carolina
The Gamecocks are in vibes hell right now after getting blown out by Alabama and suspending one of their star players in Dylan Stewart. The bounce back year for LaNorris Sellers has not come to pass yet, and the Gamecock defense looks way too lost right now.
14. Vanderbilt
Vandy put up a decent fight against Auburn in Jordan-Hare, and Jared Curtis continues to look impressive when he gets a chance. This won't be a year where the 'Dores can contend, but they are clearly building for the future in an exciting way.
13. Auburn
The Tigers are just going to have to ride this year out as one of the lower-ceiling teams in the conference. There are some impressive things on the defensive side, namely Xavier Atkins, but the offense doesn't look like it can scale very well with this personnel.
12. Kentucky
The Wildcats had a bit of a letdown performance after playing way above their heads last week, but there's still excitement around Will Stein and this program. Traveling to South Carolina could present another opportunity for a big win this week to get to 4-1.
11. Oklahoma
The Sooners looked completely lost on offense at Georgia, but their defense put up a valiant effort. It ended up being way too much for that side of the ball to handle essentially alone, but it's something to build on over the bye week headed into Red River.
10. Tennessee
The Volunteers look like they have a quarterback in Faizon Brandon that will be great in a year or so, but he was unable to capitalize on many opportunities against Texas. He ran himself into sacks all day and wasn't reading the field well— the defense for the Vols was what kept them in that very winnable game at home.
9. Missouri
Eli Drinkwitz's squad performed well for the most part against Mississippi State in one of the sleeper hit games of the weekend, but they came away with their first loss on the season. Florida will be a huge one at home this week, as the Gators come in as a top-10 team.
8. Texas
At some point, people just need to recognize that Arch Manning doesn't have it. Colin Simmons had a huge game and Muschamp's defense showed they can feast against indecisive quarterbacks, but the offense will be kneecapped by Manning's ineptitude this year unless they lean fully into being a power run team.
7. Texas A&M
The Aggies have fallen far from their preseason ranking, but there are still flashes of hope. The run game looked good against the nation's top rush defense this past week, and the defense put up a good fight in the first half. A&M will need to lean into those factors going forward, and this weekend's game against Arkansas is a perfect opportunity to do so.
6. Mississippi State
The Bulldogs got a big win over Missouri this weekend, but they will have a massive test on Saturday against Alabama— luckily, they get it at home. Win that one, and they will be vaulted right into the top ten for the first time in years.
5. Ole Miss
Was this an emotional letdown for the Rebs, or is Florida just that good? It looks like the answer is most likely a combination of both; it's hard to see Trinidad Chambliss letting this team fall too far, but the Gators are all of a sudden looking like Playoff contenders.
4. Florida
I'm hearing that the Gators are all of a sudden looking like Playoff contenders. The combination of Aaron Philo and Buster Faulkner, not to mention Dallas Wilson and Jadan Baugh, makes this an offense that is going to be extremely difficult for any team in the nation to stop— and the defense is coming along nicely.
3. Alabama
Keelon Russell and company are really rounding into form after a slower start to the year. They'll have some tougher games upcoming, but right now, Tide fans have to love what this squad is showing.
2. LSU
The Tigers look like they're back on track after this past week's big win, but injuries are beginning to take their toll on Kiffin's squad. They have a get-right game against McNeese this weekend, but then they have to travel to a Kentucky team that is playing with a lot of confidence right now— there are no off weekends in this conference.
1. Georgia
The Bulldogs continue to get a lot of snaps in for their backups no matter who they play. It's hard to picture anyone unseating them for the top spot in the conference right now, but stranger things have happened.
