Texas A&M has long been in strong contention for ESPN's top overall recruit in the 2026 cycle, Lamar Brown of University Lab High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Of course, as you can probably tell by his aforementioned provenance, the LSU Tigers have also been a significant contender in this tightly-contested race.

With now fewer than 24 hours remaining until Brown makes his commitment, there's just about as much fog and uncertainty surrounding his destination as I've ever seen for a prospect of this caliber this close to a public decision. You have national writers picking LSU, but essentially chalking it up to environmental factors rather than inside information.

Anecdotally, posters on Tiger boards seem less than confident, as do their plugged-in moderators, perhaps because of a dearth of actual information emanating from the typical sources. There's a bit more confidence on the Aggies' side of things, but also a lot of hard hedging. In less than a day, though, this will all be cleared up.

Everything for Texas A&M football fans to know about Lamar Brown's commitment announcement: Time, channel, and more

With a prospect of this caliber, it's no surprise to see that Brown is announcing on live television. It's become more and more common nowadays to see players simply tweet out their intentions, but when it comes to the select few like Brown, ESPN and similar places will be scrambling to get them a spot.

You can catch Brown announcing on ESPN2 at 12:15 PM central. He is nominally picking between LSU, A&M, Miami, and Texas, but the real finalists are the Aggies and Tigers.

If the Aggies were to win out here, this would be the biggest recruiting win that the Ags have possibly ever had. Pulling a number one overall-caliber player out of Baton Rouge over the Tigers is extremely notable, and it would be the latest in a series of vindications of the recruiting ability of this staff.

However, if Brown commits to the Tigers, it will be a massive disappointment, while not something unforeseen. This is about as close to a 50/50 as we've ever seen at this point, but most of the traditional wisdom points to a kid like this not leaving the Boot. It's only every other factor that seems to be pointing the Aggies' way.

Time will tell, but I'm sticking with my feeling that he picks the Aggies in the end. No matter what happens, this will be a race to the finish, but tomorrow could be a significant win— or just as significant of a setback— to this Aggies class.
